Police have confirmed a body discovered at a popular Newcastle beach yesterday afternoon, is that of a 70-year-old rock fisherman.
The man was walking on rocks at the northern end of Bar Beach just after 2:30, when he was swept into the ocean by a wave.
Lifeguards managed to pull him from the water, but he couldn’t be revived.
Newcastle Water Police and local officers are investigating the incident.
