A 41-year-old man has been accused of setting fire to a shed at Shortland.
Fire crews were called to an address on Marsden Street at about 1.30am, and arrived to find the shed well alight.
The blaze was extinguished a short time later – thankfully no one was hurt, and the adjoining house – a rental property – was vacant.
The 41-year-old is due to face Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.
