Ratepayers will foot a legal bill of well over $100,000, incurred by Byron Shire Council while fighting an injunction to stop the construction of a rock wall at Belongil.
Environmental group Positive Change for Marine Life has since withdrawn its case, after failing to convince the Land and Environmental Court to grant an interim injunction.
Byron Shire Council has released a statement saying it’s disappointing, as the money could have gone towards much needed infrastructure upgrades.
