The Lock the Gate Alliance has welcomed the government’s promise to freeze new coal seam gas mining activity across the state.
It follows a parliamentary committee inquiry, which investigated the supply and rising cost of gas.
While regulations are being reviewed, the state says new projects won’t be considered.
“The ball is in the government’s court, their gas plan has failed and so really we’re looking to them to fix up the problem and the gap, to stop the dangerous development of coal seam gas until we’ve got adequate regulations in place.”
