HUNTER WETLANDS ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION
The Shortland Wetlands were the centre of some international attention today, with students from Japan’s Kushiro Koryo High School arriving to study the habits of the latham snipe.
The bird is commonly known as the Japanese racing pigeon.
Every summer, the snipes migrate here from their breeding grounds in northern Japan.
“It’s a lovely partnership and it really celebrates the biological connection that we have with the northern hemisphere.”
