Newcastle Herald’s Joanne McCarthy has won one Australian journalism’s most prized award – the Gold Walkley.
The Fairfax reporter was rewarded for work, which led to an inquiry and Royal Commission into the church child sex scandal.
The Herald says her work led to the arrest of at least 12 religious brothers and priests.
