ANOTHER 2 DAYS BEFORE HEAT EXCHANGER LEAVES COFFS

It’ll be at least another couple of days before a gigantic piece of mining equipment heads out to sea from Coffs Harbour.

For the past week crowds have gathered at various vantage points around the harbour to watch the preparations.

The 1500 tonne heat exchanger, built by local firm W.E.Smith Engineering, is bound for a nickel plant in Western Australia.

Worth more than $2 million, the machinery had to be attached to a semi-trailer and then moved onto a barge.

It will be towed to Port Kembla and lifted onto a ship when conditions improve.
