Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s promise of a billion dollars to start a Western Sydney motorway project has sparked a challenge from a mid north coast MP.
The Nationals’ Luke Hartsuyker wants Labor’s Janelle Saffin to give a guarantee that the Pacific Highway upgrade will not be delayed as a result of the Sydney project.
He said, “Jannelle Saffin needs to come out in support of the people on the north coast and guarantee no funds will be diverted.”
Janelle Saffin replied, “Luke Hartsuyker is just making mischief – he knows that the 2.3 billion dollars from the Federal Government for the Pacific Highway is quarantined.”
If elected, the coalition says it will redirect funds from the Epping to Parramatta rail link project in Sydney to help fund the Pacific Highway upgrade.
