Asking the simple question “are you ok?” can make a huge difference to someone who may be having a tough time.
Today the Armidale community united to recognise the struggle faced by those with a mental illness, in a community walk to Central Park.
The initiative was organised for R U OK Day, which coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day.
Participants say suicide is the “elephant in the room” that needs to be spoken about more often.
“It’s the hugest killer of men under 44 and women under 34, bigger than cancer, bigger than road tolls but it’s not talked about, nobody knows.”
