BIG CHRISTMAS QUEUES FOR BALLINA PRAWNS

Prawns have long been an iconic part of Ballina so it’s no wonder people were lining up out the door to get some of the Co-op’s fresh, locally-caught prawns for Christmas.
The Ballina Fishermens Co-op expects to have sold two to three tonne of the crowd-pleasing crustaceans in the 48 hours before close of business tonight.
Spanner crabs, mud crabs and lobsters have also been in high demand.
“We had a few people lined up this morning. We sort of threw the doors open at about, just before five o’clock. Probably about quarter to five there was some people lined up”
Extra staff were put on to manage the pre-Christmas prawn rush – the co-ops busiest time of year.
