SHORTFALL IN SHARK TOWER FUNDS

Time is running out for Ballina Council to fund the shortfall in construction of a shark observation tower at Sharpes Beach.
Following a spate of attacks in 2015 council received a grant to build the tower through the State Government’s Shark Management Strategy.
But it’s since discovered the project will cost twice the initial amount.
“The Minister has been kind enough to give us nearly $40,000 for the project but the budget is $85,000 and the council is now going to be seeking additional assistance so hopefully we can proceed”
Approval to build the tower lapses at the end of October, and the existing grant money must be spent this year.
