EELS DOCKED ALL COMP POINTS AND FINED $1-MILLION OVER SALARY CAP BREACH

The Parramatta Eels are set to be stripped of all 12 of their 2016 competition points and fined $1 million following an investigation into the club’s salary cap breach, 9NEWS understands.
Five Eels officials are also expected to lose their jobs, according to 9NEWS League reporter Danny Weidler.
NRL CEO Todd Greenberg met with coach Brad Arthur and addressed the team at training this morning.

Speaking to the media this morning Mr Greenberg said it is “a difficult day for the club”, adding that it was “important” he addressed the players before the announcement this morning.
At the centre of the alleged breaches are a number of questionable third-party deals.

Under-fire chairman Steve Sharp told members at a fiery AGM on Monday night that he would resign if it meant the club were spared a points deduction.
Sharp reportedly clashed several times with former chairman Dennis Fitzgerald who said the current board’s position would be untenable when the NRL’s integrity unit reveals its findings.
