GINNAGAY MOSAIC IN DORRIGO

Remembering the indigenous inhabitants of the mid-north-coast is one of the main reasons behind a new wall at the Dorrigo Rainforest centre.

It took more than 170 local students and artists four months to put together the ‘ginnagay’ mosaic – which means ‘welcome’ in the language of the Gumbaynggirr people.

“This is the Gumbaynggir nation here. We forget that sometimes. We think we’ve been here for a long time. They’ve been here for a very long time. So I think it was important to bring the the nature and the culture together.”

The artwork, which features a timeline of the region, is already proving a hit with visitors.
