INDIGENOUS DANCE AT NATIONAL PARKS WEEK CELEBRATION
Indigenous elders from the Coffs Coast gathered with other locals and tourists on Mutton Bird Island today to mark National Parks Week.
Children were encouraged to participate in some traditional dancing at the island’s Education and Cultural Space.
Gourmet bush tucker was served and some of the elders told stories and recited poetry.
Auntie Gloria Phillips said, “it’s a wonderful achievement to be able to say well, I was part of this when it began now we’ve got this beautiful site here.”
The architecture and signage at the aboriginal sacred site recently attracted a national tourism award.
