An eleventh-hour meeting to halt the closure of Grafton’s gaol has failed and 107 staff are set to lose their jobs.
Clarence Valley representatives couldn’t persuade Acting Premier and Nationals Leader, Andrew Stoner, to stop the sackings.

I was one of telstra workers made redundant by telstra in Nov 2010 then the meat works went and now they want to reduce size of Grafton Jail. For Grafton this will be bad. Not only effects workers at the Jail but also familys of imates, Local Business’s and future of our children, housing market just to name a few. What does the government think it is doing. How many other towns have had such large job lost in last 18 mths. The mayor has called on all commuinty to attend the picket line.
