CHURCH DECISION LOOMS

Newcastle councillors will again be asked to decide whether a proposed $8-million church in Hamilton should limit the number of worshippers.

Some supporters of the Salvation Army’s plans in Cleary Street have likened council’s move to reduce numbers from 250 to 160 people, as an attack on religious freedom.

Nearby residents claim the streets are already too congested.

A revised report from council staff will be discussed at Tuesday’s meeting.
