The Rural Fire Service has declared the Northern Rivers’ bush fire danger period will begin on September 1.
It means landowners will need to obtain a permit from their local Fire Control Centre before lighting any fires, including hazard reduction burns.
Authorities are urging locals to start preparing now, and ensure they have a bush fire survival plan.
