MERRIWA WITHOUT A DOCTOR

The small Hunter community of Merriwa is without a doctor.
Its only GP took sick leave about a month ago, meaning residents are facing a two-hour round trip, just to access basic health care.
Today, Hunter New England Health said a GP has started working from Merriwa’s multi-purpose service, one day a fortnight.

A well presented account of the problems faced by our community without a doctor.
I am concerned that the statement by Hunter New England Health that a doctor has started working one day a fortnight at the MPS may be construed as being an adequate solution to our doctor shortage. Whilst this service will be helpful it will by no means go to any great length to providing our community adequate access to medical care. Quite simply it’s like cutting off your right leg and celebrating because you found a bandaid in the first aid kit.
It would be of assistance if NBN could continue to cover this story until an adequate solution has been found.
Thanks for the good work so far.
