Gold Coast Council has announced plans to fund $35-thousand worth of car immobilisers.
It hopes the move will significantly reduce car thefts in some of the city’s most high risk suburbs.
The hotspots being targeted include Surfers Paradise, Southport, Nerang, Ormeau and Helensvale.
“It’s another way of crime prevention – make it harder for thieves to steal cars, especially for those who can’t afford it to be stolen.”
The immobilisers will only be available for vehicles manufactured before 2001, that don’t already have the anti-theft device installed.
