OUTTERIDGE TURNS THE LIGHTS OUT ON THE MOTH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

He admits it started as a bit of fun, but today Lake Macquarie’s Nathan Outteridge became world champion in sailing’s moth class.

During a week of competition, Outteridge won plenty of races, but 6th in today’s 3rd race was enough to claim the overall title.

“I’ve encouraged a lot of my mates to do it so we’ve been training pretty hard together for the last year and it was meant to be a bit of fun but when you go sailing it’s never just fun it’s always pretty serious.”

He’ll now turn his attention back to the 49er class, where he’s also a world champion.

“Back up here on the lake doing a 49er training camp before at the end of February we’ve got the far 40 worlds so I could probably count about 5 days off between now and about June.”
