Former Maclean Mayor Chris Gulaptis will contest the state seat of Clarence for the Nationals, after being pre-selected by party members this afternoon.
Mr Gulaptis was one of seven candidates vying to represent the Nationals in the seat vacated last month by Steve Cansdell after he admitted to falsely signing a stat dec.
The by-election is set down for November 19.
