HARBOUR WHALE TURNS HEADS

A male juvenile humpback whale spent 30 minutes cruising Newcastle Harbour on Wednesday.
The same eight-metre long whale was seen yesterday in Shoal Bay Harbour, Port Stephens.
Moonshadow Cruises was hosting a group of Hunter tourism operators on a boat in Newcastle Harbour about 11 am when they spotted the whale.
He came within 10 metres of the shore as he made his way back out of the harbour near Horseshoe Beach.
Spokeswoman Janene Rees said they matched the markings on the whale from photos taken in Shoal Bay yesterday.
‘‘It’s definitely the same whale, if they get tired sometimes they will come in for a rest as they are usually migrating north at this time,’’ she said.
‘‘This is definitely a first for us, we have never seen a whale in Newcastle Harbour before.’’
