A cab driver has been seriously assaulted after in Tamworth in the early hours of this morning.
Police say the taxi driver was called to Donald street in West Tamworth at around 2:30am.
A man jumped into the cab and bashed the driver before stealing a sum of money.
“The reports I have that he was struck by an object and that he was also assaulted by punching by other persons that got into his taxi,” Insp. Phil O’Reilly said.
It’s the second incident in the past few weeks.
At the end of December, a taxi driver was struck with a brick in Tingira Street.
Detectives are working to establish if there is any link.
