GOLD COAST SURFING ICON DIES IN BALI

The founder of Gold Coast board-shaping company Byrning Spears, has died in a Bali hospital.

Champion surfer, Allan Byrnes, had been in a coma after fracturing his skull in a motorbike accident nearly a week ago.

The 64-year-old, who has made boards for the likes of Kelly Slater and Mark Occilupo, had been in Bali to compete in the Rip Curl Cup.
