Westpac Helicopter crews claim the use of old emergency distress beacons are putting lives at risk.
It says the devices don’t activate satellites, which makes it harder for rescue crews to locate those in need of help.
The helicopter service says last week’s rescue near the Nymboida River could have been far worse.

Any devices that are 243 or 121.5 Megahertz should be replaced.
