The state government is considering a reform of laws around the killing of deer.
The population of wild deers in New South Wales has increased almost 17 percent in the last decade.
Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall says he’s considering easing deer shooting restrictions to help farmers struggling with the pests.
“There’s lots of options on the table that I’m considering at the moment but certainly this is the most common sense solution and would bring the management of wild deer in line with the way that we manage all other feral pests and animals across the state.”
State laws currently allow pests and feral animals to be destroyed on private land without a license, however this doesn’t apply to the killing of deers.
