NEWCASTLE COUNCIL HITS CRISIS POINT

Newcastle Council is in disarray tonight, amid the shock resignation of the General Manager, and calls for the Lord Mayor to follow suit.
John Tate meanwhile has now threatened to bring the Local Government Minister in, to investigate whether the council can function on its own.

  1. The General Manager had a job to do. She should have continued to do it. Hard to believe she couildn’t continue to work with the Lord Mayor.I can’t say I think Newcastle will be any the worse without her. I don’t have a lot of time for the Lord Mayor either but we can do something about that at the next election. Good riddance to Ms Hyam.

  2. It is time to call in the adminstrators and then let the people of Newcastle have their say on a new Council via elections. The Councillors who called for Tate’e resignation all have their own agendas, rather than Newcastle’s best interests, at heart. Look at Buman – a farce in the Council meetings, hostile towards anyone who ever questions him (as constituents who have ever emailed him would know) and has publicly stated his intention to run against Tate in the state election. The ALP Councillors are just as bad – they always vote as a block and are trying to get one of their own, Tim Crackenthorp, up against Jodi for ALP state pre-selection. Talk about clear conflicts of interest!

Ms Hyam left because she didn’t want to face an interview next week with another media outlet who was investigating claims she and her department misused state planning laws. The news she left was met with cheers across the city – at last we will be able to start spending money on things we actually want again rather than redundancies, removing fig trees, ruining our parks with floodlights and skate parks etc.

The sooners the Councillors go also and we get a fresh start the better!
