After being judged “Fit for the Future”, Moree Plains Shire Council has stopped negotiations to merge with Gwydir.
Moree was one of 43 regional councils to pass the State Government’s test, and won’t make any further submissions on the matter.
Despite mergers being off the table, Mayor Katrina Humphries still intends to keep the Shire part of the Namoi Joint Organisation.
While Gwydir Shire was deemed unfit, it still intends to stand alone if possible.
