Batting first, Newcastle was 3 for 16 when Nathan Hudson was caught.
Jed Dickson only managed six before he was stumped.
When Adrian Chad was caught for three in the deep, Newcastle was 5 for 23.
Jonty Durrheim fell just one run later, as the home side struggled to just 69.
Sydney chased down that total in just seven overs.
Newcastle now needs to beat Gordon next weekend to make the finals.
