It’s taken four months but the Newcastle Knights are officially part of Nathan Tinkler’s Hunter Sports Group.
Former Chairman Rob Tew and current CEO Troy Palmer completed the final paperwork this afternoon, which included a $20-million bank guarantee and a payment of more than $6-million in liabilities.
The handover was completed five days ahead of the revised August 10 deadline, but the Hunter Sports Group denied speculation it was ever in danger of falling through.
“I think we were all surprised by the complexity of the deal. We would have liked to have it done earlier but there was a lot in it and it needed to get done right.”
