RAIL UPGRADE FOR NORTH COAST

The main rail line between Maitland and the Queensland border is set to undergo a multi-million upgrade.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation will carry out curve easing works, which it says will reduce transit times on the Sydney to Brisbane link.
The work at 58 sites is also expected to ultimately reduce maintenance costs, improve the competitiveness of rail freight, and reduce the number of trucks on the Pacific Highway.
Councils and community groups will be briefed about the works over the coming months.
