WERRIS CREEK MINE SHUTS DOWN

Whitehaven Coal’s Werris Creek mine has been closed indefinitely following a number of safety breaches at the site.
It’s alleged a number of employees were bullied by mining supervisors after they raised concerns over unsafe practises, including staff working too close to loaded blasting holes and areas at risk of collapse.
The state’s chief coal mine inspector, Rob Regan, says 70 employees were interviewed after the concerns were raised on Monday.
The mine was finally shut down this morning, following fears work practises could have caused serious injury or death.
