Plans to build an organic waste facility on the outskirts of Tamworth have hit a hurdle.
A specialist consultant has advised the proposed site on Duri – Wallamore Road near the airport is not suitable, due to increased risk of a bird strike.
Tonight councillors will consider withdrawing the development application and investigate alternative sites for the project.
The $1.3-million facility is designed to reduce landfill at the city’s Forest Road site, by recycling all domestic food scraps and garden waste.
