OLD SALT SAILS INTO THE SUNSET

A real old man of the sea and Lake Macquarie legend, Charlie Hollis, has died at the age of 92.
He was best known for his involvement in the marine industry, having established the Marks Point Marina in the 1950s.
Mr Hollis received numerous commendations from the water police, volunteer marine groups and the boating public for his assistance during many rescues and emergencies on the lake.
For more than 20 years until Charlie was in his 80s, he and wife Joan, on board their catamaran, were regular visitors to coastal ports between Lake Macquarie and Queensland during their annual pilgrimage to warmer climes.
