A 22-year-old man has been arrested following a pursuit and carjacking, which started in Wallsend.
Police gave chase just after 10am, after spotting a man they say was driving dangerously in a stolen vehicle.
He then allegedly forced a silver Audi off the road, before stealing it and taking off along the M1 near Dora Creek.
An unmarked police car was also hit, injuring two officers.
