Two people have died following a head-on collision near Moree.

A semi-trailer and vehicle collided six kilometres north of the town on the Newell Highway at around 5.45 yesterday afternoon – killing a man and woman.

Work has started on the New England and north west’s new multi-million dollar cancer centre.

Workers are on site, with the centre to ultimately provide radiotherapy treatment locally for the first time.

In sport, the Newcastle Jets are forging a link to the North west with two of the club’s popular identities in Tamworth.

Nikolai Topor-Stanley and recently retired former English Premier League player Michael Bridges conducted a coaching clinic for the area’s budding football stars.

And local cricket officials were happy with the big turnout at a seminar held to bring more umpires through the ranks.
