Out of 11 amazing sand sculptures Melbourne’s Leo Vamvalis’ abstract piece ‘Wild Memories’ was named winner of the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships in Surfers Paradise.
Christina Mija’s zebra-inspired work placed second, while rain damage to this incredible piece didn’t stop Jino Van Bruinessen coming third.

Rain forced most sculptures to be covered today, but marquees are being organised so the exhibition can continue for the next week.
