SAFETY BARRIER FOR HIGHWAY BLACKSPOT

The new Deputy Premier has wasted no time addressing safety concerns at one of the nation’s worst road blackspots.

Andrew Stoner has announced that a central safety wire barrier will be installed on the notorious stretch of Pacific Highway at Clybucca.

Improvements will also be made to the existing concrete surface.

But Mr Stoner says the only real way to fix the black spots on the highway is for the road to be upgraded to dual carriageway, which the Coalition has pledged to complete by 2016.

The Clybucca stretch was the scene of Australia’s worst road accident, the 1989 Kempsey bus crash.
