It was a tough beginning to the final National University Sevens Series rugby tournament for U-N-E on the Gold Coast, dropping their opening two games.
The Lions got off to a disastrous start in their first match, against the University of Canberra.
When nationally-contracted star Cassie Staples scored in the corner, U-N-E was down 12-nil.

Olympic gold medallist Alicia Quirk then linked up with Warialda’s Kearni Churchland, for the Lions first points of the tournament.
The comeback effort came too late though, as the Canberra side won, 17-5.
