Work is underway to fill between the platforms and create a new open space, just in time for November’s Supercar round.
As the Newcastle Station is in very close proximity to many residences in the area, the usage should be sensible day-time usage, such as cafes, arts precinct, tourist information area, outdoor dining on the platform area, etc. These residences should be afforded the same consideration as residences elsewhere in Newcastle. What should DEFINITELY NOT be an option is to have any sort of late night/early morning venues serving alcohol, as this area is already subject to late night noise and social problems caused by patrons leaving venues in the area, such as Customs House.
