North coast butchers have come together, with a novel idea for local tourism.
They’ve started a petition to replace Ballina’s ‘big prawn’ with a ‘big steak’.
The idea comes on the back of a recent successful TV campaign, with the slogan “throw another steak on the barbie”.
“Throw a shrimp on the barbie, well we don’t have shrimps, we call them prawns to begin with and ‘throw a steak on a bbq’ you know, a t-bone is just a nice big steak”.
Never ones to mince their words, the butchers say the ‘big steak’ would show visitors the north coast is the beef captial of the nation.
They believe there could even be room for both.
“It could be a reef and beef, or something like that you know”.
