A new independently-owned, Hunter-based newspaper is in the works – and it’s expected to break new ground locally with a Sunday edition.
Journalists and photographers are being hired for the paper, called “Newcastle Sunday”.
It’s rare good news for the local media landscape.
Two years ago, Fairfax slashed 65 full-time positions, including 42 editorial jobs at the Newcastle Herald… while in 2014, nine staff were cut from 1233 ABC radio.
