As Reconciliation Week draws to a close, leaders of Tamworth’s Aboriginal community have celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1967 referendum.
While acknowledging Australia has come a long way in recognising Indigenous rights, Tamworth’s Local Aboriginal Land Council believes more can be done.
Deputy Chairperson Yvonne Kent wants to see the national anthem changed, to ‘We Are One’.
“We are one nation. Not Pauline Hanson’s ‘One Nation’, but Australia as a whole.”
