The Giants will host the Magpies in Super Netball’s minor semi final next Saturday, after the New South Wales side suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Sunshine Coast in the final round.
Playing in front of a league record crowd of almost 12,000, the Giants’ Sam Poolman drew the toughest assignment, marking shooter Caitlin Bassett.
Poolman didn’t play the gracious host, but the visitors still managed to edge in front.
The Giants missed a shot in the dying seconds that would’ve tied the game.
The Lightning’s win means it will travel to Melbourne to face the Vixens in the major semi.
