A planned maintenance shut down of the Eraring Power Station may have positive side effects for fishing in Lake Macquarie.
Attempts are underway to collect hundreds of healthy fish which have grown up in the station’s cooling and discharge canals and release them into the lake.
The fish enter the canals as juveniles but then metal grates prevent them from leaving once they grow larger.
They’ll be gathered into modified shipping containers before being trucked to the lake.
Access to popular fishing spots will be restricted during the relocation.
