CALLINAN’S BELLS CAMPAIGN OFF TO A DIFFICULT START
There was a less than ideal start to Ryan Callinan’s Bells Beach campaign this morning, with the Merewether surfer finishing last in his round one heat.
Callinan struck the first blow, a 5.2, but for much of the contest was a victim of the inconsistent conditions.
America’s Nat Young took the win.
“Quick jam on the open face and a big pocket to coil up and hammer, and he’s still swinging. There’s that dangerous approach that got Nat Young to a final here a couple of years ago.”
Callinan will now surf in the sudden-death second round.
