Steph Gilmore is through to round three of the New Zealand Surf Festival, but, once again, the Gold Coast icon did it the hard way.
She was beaten by young Hawaiin Coco Ho in the opening round, fortunately for her, it was a non-elimination heat.
The 25-year-old is surfing with a broken bone in her foot she sustained at Bells Beach.
