NEW PUSH FOR LAKE MAC CAPITAL

After a failed attempt to rename Speers Point as Lake Macquarie, there’s a new push from council to give the region a city centre.

Councillors will next week consider a report by the General Manager, urging them to apply to the Geographical Names Board to have council’s chambers given the title, Lake Macquarie City Centre.

Council has long maintained having a specific suburban area named Lake Macquarie would help tourism, and better define the city as separate from Newcastle.

  1. Maybe Boolaroo, could be renamed Lake Macquarie. The Council moved the boundaries years ago with no consultation to any of the local residents from Eigth Street to Seventh Street, leaving the Boolaroo Bowling Club, and Boolaroo Police Station in the New Speers Point boundaries. It might even cover up the last of the residual “Lead” issue left over from Pasminco.

  2. Here we go again, I just love the way that this council refuses to listen to the ratepayers who keep them in a job. Can we please have an administrator to replace this useless bunch of oxygen theif’s.
