Police are appealing for information following an attempted armed hold-up near Cessnock.
A man entered a service station on Wollombi Road at Bellbird just before 7am, threatening a staff member with a weapon.
He demanded cash, but fled empty-handed.
The man was last seen wearing a navy hooded jumper, dark coloured cap, dark pants and sunglasses.
