Newcastle taxi drivers fear an international app that connects ordinary drivers with paying passengers, could cost them business.
They’re meeting tonight to call on state transport officials to put an end to the app, which is already being used in Sydney.

The app they are referring to is Uber, and personally i have used this service.
I completely agree that this app will ‘cost them business’, but this is because Uber is about 5 steps ahead of newcastles taxi service.
Not only can you choose from basic to luxury vehicles, but the driver is mapped onto your phone.
But the biggest advantage is the payment system. The app is linked to one of your financial accounts, when the trip is over the payment automatically finalizes itself, with the option to split fair by simply selecting a name in the drop down menu.
Newcastle taxi’s should be upping there game if they wish to compete, not arguing to ban the app
